DDP From China: Why the Rates Are So Low, and Who Actually Pays When CBP Catches It

An importer's guide to undervaluation, transshipment, and importer of record liability, plus what Executive Order 14411 changed in June 2026

Chinese DDP quotes often price below the duty legally owed. Here is how the schemes work, why the U.S. buyer carries the liability, and what Executive Order 14411 changed on June 3, 2026.

The Drone Tariff Starts September 3. Six HTS Codes Sit on Both the 100 Percent List and the 25 Percent List.

The rate does not follow the classification. It follows a spec sheet. On a 100,000 dollar order the gap between the two lists is 75,000 dollars, and nothing in the tariff schedule tells you which side you are on.

Section 232 duties on unmanned aircraft systems take effect at 12:01 a.m. eastern on September 3, 2026 under Proclamation 11055. Coverage has focused on the headline rates, 100 percent and 25 percent. The harder problem is that the same six subheadings appear on both lists, and the only thing separating them is whether the aircraft carries a thermal imager, which no HTS code records. Here is what is covered, why the allied country ceilings are narrower than they look, why drawback is almost entirely closed, and what CBP still has not published with ten days to go.

Section 338 on Canada Is Live at 50 Percent. The Covered List Reaches Honey, Cement and Cut Flowers.

The three proclamations are named for alcoholic beverages, dairy and motor vehicles. Those are the grievances, not the scope. 554 subheadings are covered, and the ones catching importers off guard have nothing to do with any of the three.

The additional 50 percent duty on Canadian goods took effect at 12:01 a.m. eastern on August 22, 2026, after trade talks collapsed the night before. Most coverage describes it as a dairy, alcohol and auto tariff. That describes why the duties were imposed, not what they hit. The annexes are broad retaliation lists spanning 554 subheadings, and a shipment of Canadian honey now pays 50 percent. Here is what is actually covered, what is carved out, why a valid USMCA certificate does not help, and what changes again on September 8.

Gateway Tariff Calculator Is Now a ChatGPT Plugin

The Gateway Lines tariff calculator is now an approved ChatGPT plugin. Ask it what your duty will be and it answers from the live US tariff schedule instead of training data. On stainless sinks from China, the schedule says 3.4%. The real number is 53.4%. Here is what the plugin does and how to install it.

How Gateway Lines Built the Go-To U.S. Import Tariff Calculator

U.S. tariff law was rebuilt three times between February and August 2026. Any calculator running on a January rate table is now wrong in at least six places. This is how the Gateway Lines simulator became the go-to U.S. import tariff calculator, and the discipline that keeps it accurate within 48 hours of every policy change.
